About unscramble.tools

unscramble.tools is a free collection of word tools: a word unscrambler, an anagram solver, helpers for Wordle, Scrabble-style games, crosswords, Spelling Bee and Strands, searchable word lists and a dictionary page for every word. It is available in English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian and Polish.

What we set out to do

Most word-helper sites are slow, cluttered and vague about where their answers come from. We want the opposite: fast pages, results ranked by how common each word is so the likely answers come first, and clear sources for every list.

Where the data comes from

• Word lists: ENABLE (public domain) for English, and open spelling dictionaries or Wiktionary extracts for the other languages. The exact source for each language is credited in the footer of its pages.
• Word frequency: wordfreq by Robyn Speer, CC BY-SA 4.0.
• Pronunciations and definitions (English): the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary and Princeton WordNet 3.0.

No dictionary is perfect. Different games accept different words, so if a game rejects a word we suggest, the game’s own list is the authority. Spotted a mistake? Tell us and we will look into it.

Independence

unscramble.tools is an independent site. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Hasbro, Mattel, Zynga or The New York Times Company. Game names mentioned are trademarks of their respective owners.

How the site is funded

The tools are free to use. We may show advertising, for example through Google AdSense, to cover hosting and development. Ads never change the order or content of results. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising and analytics cookies work.
