How to find anagrams
Type your letters and press Find anagrams. Each result is a single word that uses every letter you entered, no more and no fewer. Enter LISTEN and you get SILENT, ENLIST, INLETS and TINSEL; enter NIGHT and you get THING.
Many sets of letters have no anagram at all. When that happens, look at the one letter short list on the results page. It shows the words that use all but one letter, and which letter is left over.
Where anagrams come up
- Jumbles and scrambled-word puzzles: the answer always uses every letter, so an anagram search goes straight to it.
- Cryptic crosswords: clues often signal an anagram with words like “broken”, “confused” or “wild”. Enter the fodder letters to see the candidates.
- Word games: playing all seven tiles earns a bonus in most tile games. Add a ? for a blank to see whether a full-rack play exists.
Anagrams and the word unscrambler
This tool is strict: every letter must be used. If you want every word you can make from some of your letters, use the word unscrambler instead. Each anagram results page links straight to the matching unscrambler results.
