A palindrome reads the same in both directions. Single-word palindromes are rare: only about a hundred in our dictionary have three letters or more. Phrases are more common, such as “A man, a plan, a canal: Panama”, where spaces and punctuation are ignored.
In our dictionary the longest have seven letters, including DEIFIED, REVIVER and ROTATOR. REDIVIDER (nine letters) is sometimes cited but is not in our word list; Finnish has the 19-letter saippuakivikauppias.
