What each filter does

Starts with / Ends with / Contains: letters that must appear together at the start, at the end or anywhere.
Must include: every letter here appears somewhere in the word, in any position.
Must not include: none of these letters appear anywhere.
Pattern: one character per letter, with ? for unknowns, so ?R??E finds five-letter words with R second and E last.
Common words only: hides rare and technical words.

Filters combine, so “5 letters, includes A and E, excludes R, S and T” is a quick way to work through a word puzzle by hand.

Yes. “Must include” only requires each letter to appear somewhere. Use “Contains” when the letters must be next to each other in that order.
