Entering a pattern

Type one character per square: the letter if you know it, or ? if you do not. For a five-letter answer with C first and S last and O in the middle, enter C?O?S. You can also use a dot, underscore, hyphen or space for blanks.

Narrowing it down

Results put everyday words first, which is where crossword answers usually are. If there are too many, fill in a crossing answer first and come back with one more letter.

This tool matches letter patterns. It does not interpret clues, and answers made of several words are not supported yet.

Frequently asked questions

Can I search by clue?

Not yet. The solver matches the letters and length of the answer. Combine it with the clue: most answers fit only a handful of patterns once two or three letters are known.

How long can the answer be?

Up to 15 letters, which covers a standard 15×15 grid.
